Mrs. W. Musgrave
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Musgrave, who died after an illness of 10 months in a Duncan hospital, Monday, March 2, were Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the First Baptist church of Waurika.  Officiating, were Rev. S. E. Dickey, and old family friend, assisted by Haskell England, minister of the Waurika Church of Christ.  Interment was in the family plot of the Waurika cemetery.  Miss Bertie Lee Shannon was born in Cooper, Texas, September 20, 1884.  She was married to Walter Carter in Pecan Gap, Texas, February 2, 1902.  They were blessed with nine children in their home.  Mr. and Mrs. Carter came to Oklahoma in February of 1907, making their home in the Diamond community out from Hastings.  They had moved into Duncan where they were living when Mr. Carter passed away January 3, 1928.  After living alone for 18 years she was married to Walter Musgraves in Waurika on April 19, 1946.  She was a kind and loving wife and mother, a good neighbor and friends.  She had been converted and was added to the Baptist church forty-four years ago and had been consistent in her life a belief.  Surviving relatives of the immediate family are Mr. Musgrave; eight children, one died in 1926.  They are; Mrs. Ella Willeford, Duncan’ Mrs. Alva Smith, Mrs. Tommie Willeford, Mrs. Grace Wilson, Browning Carter, all of Comanche;  Mrs. Eula Mae Taylor, Lovington, Texas; Leonard Carter , Artesia N. M; Mrs. Homer Sewell, Melvin, Texas.  There are also four step-children; Mrs. Murel Watkins and Mrs. Bennie Adkins, Waurika; Bill Musgraves, Borger, Texas; and Ernest Musgraves, Graham, Texas.  Three brothers are; A.E. Shannon, Duncan; Joe of McMann; Allen, Salem, Oregon.  The sisters are Mrs. Fannie Kimberling, Zaneis, and Mrs. Willis Baker, Chowchilla,  Calif.  There are 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren to rise up and call Mrs. Musgraves blessed.

Note:  In the 1930 Census for Jefferson County, Bourland, Oklahoma,  Bertie is going by the name Birtie Moore the wife of S. Moore (Seborn Moore) and her daughter Eula May and son Leonard also reside in the home.  Her parents Samuel and Mattie Shannon live next door along with her son Browning Carter.  Living next to the Shannon’s is Edgar and Ila Fay Blaylock.  Ila Fay is Seborn Moore’s daughter.  In 1940 Bertie L Moore lives in Jefferson County, Bourland, Oklahoma.  Bertie’s mother Mattie Shannon lives with her and her son Leonard Carter also.   So as far as living alone for 18 years and marrying Walter Arlington Musgrave that part of the obituary is incorrect.  Possibly she never married Seborn Moore but she did go by his wife for at least 10 years.  According to the Moore family they were married.  Seborn died at his son’s house in Walters, Cotton County, Oklahoma in 1940 so it is possible they divorced.
