Roger L. Demers

Mr. Roger L. Demers, age 73, of New Castle, DE, died on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Manchester, NH on October 27, 1934, Mr. Demers was the son of the late Joseph Demers and Florida Chicoine Demers. A member of the New Hampshire Air National Guard and the Delaware Air National Guard, he proudly served his country for over 30 years until his retirement in 1990 as a Senior Master Sergeant.

He later accepted a part-time position with R & D Service, Inc. in New Castle.

A devout Catholic, Mr. Demers was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima parish for 46 years. He was currently the treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and had served as past president of Our Lady of Fatima Athletic Association. He also coached the parish's youth football team for many years.

In his leisure time, Mr. Demers was a member of the Delaware Air National Rifle Team and qualified as a master marksman at national competitions. He was well known as a talented woodworker for his replicas of miniature homes and lighthouses for Jamie Wyeth and others. Mr. Demers will be remembered most of all as a devoted family man, who delighted in spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvette A. Tremblay Demers; children, Claire A. Noonan of IL; Albert J. Demers and wife, Nancy, of New Castle, DE; Robert L. Demers of Wilmington, DE; and Andrew J. Demers and wife, Christine, of Elkton, MD; sister, Lilliane Caza and husband, Lucien, of Bedford, NH; grandchildren, David, Charlene, Gabriel, Alexandra, Carolyn, Sarah and Daniel; and great grandchildren, Teagan, Belle and Carissa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 5 pm, on Monday, May 12, at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may call after 3 pm. A committal service will be held at 10 am, on Tuesday, May 13, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.
