Opal Murriel, who was known as Murriel, until her elder years, was born to Richard Lusky, who went by Lusky and Alice Lucinda, who went by Alice, Willis Gray in Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas. Her siblings were Sherman, Azalee, Newell, and Maxine.

Murriel graduated from Cold Springs High School as a Senior at age 17 (There were only 11 grades at that time.) and went to the Houston Beauty School to become a beautician. After graduation, she worked in beauty shops in Conroe and Cleveland, Texas.

She met and married Kermit King Hollingsworth on June 23, 1941. She was a Methodist minister's wife for the next 36 years. They had four children: Linda Sue, Llewellyn, Kermit King Jr., and Deborah. She lived in the following Texas towns and cities from 1941-1957: Tomball, Linden, Athens, Palestine, Galveston, and Houston. From 1957-1977 she lived in the following Oklahoma towns and cities: Oklahoma City, Duncan, Woodward, El Reno, Claremore, Okmulgee, Tulsa, and Perry. After her husband died, she moved to Claremore where she was active in her church and worked as an LPN in local nursing homes, and at a local plant nursery.

In her declining health years, she lived in Okmulgee to be near her daughter Deborah and then in Owasso followed by nine years in Stillwater where she was cared for by her granddaughter Elizabeth Dawn Key and family.
