James T. Flanagan, for forty years a well known merchant at St. Mary's, died at his home at that place last Thursday night of tuberculosis. Although he had been in failing health for the past few years, his condition was not such as to cause apprehension to his family and friends until about a week previous to his death when he suffered a severe hemorrhage. After that time he gradually grew worse. The funeral was held at St. Charles Church Sunday morning, the Rev. Father Winters, of St. Mary's College, conducting the services in the presence of a large number of friends. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Flanagan was born in this county 71 years ago and practically the whole of his life was spent in the St. Mary's neighborhood. For nearly forty-two years he was engaged in the merchantile business at St. Mary's and was widely known not only in that section but throughout the county. He retired from business a few years ago. Mr. Flanagan was a splendid citizen, a consistent member of the Catholic church and in his death the county loses one of its good citizens. His widow and five children, four daughters and one son survive. They are Hugh B. Flanagan, of Kansas City; Mrs. Adrian Head, of Illinois; Mrs. Bert Abell, of Elizabethtown; and Mrs. Hardesty Peterson and Mrs. Ed Blandford, of this county.
