Daughter of William Joseph Holmes & Honor Wells. Born near current day Stoystown, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Although at the time of her birth it was Cumberland County, then changing into Beford County in 1771, then finally in 1795 became current Somerset County.

She married Alexander McClean on October 26, 1775 in the Stoystown area.
