Ransom Aldridge enlisted on July 30, 1862, at the age of 30, as a Private in Company H, 3rd North Carolina Regiment. This company was known as the "Bladen Volunteers". He resided in Randolph County, which is where he enlisted. Private Aldridge was wounded September 17, 1862 at Sharpsburg, Maryland, he returned to duty January or February 1863. He was wounded again May 3, 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia, and was "absent wounded" through October 1863. After that he was "present or accounted for" until May 12, 1864 when he was captured near Spotsylvania Count House, Virginia. Initially, Private Aldridge was confined at Point Lookout, Maryland until transferred to Elmira Prison Camp on August 10, 1864. Private Ransom Aldridge died at Elmira Prison of "variola".
