Connie spent her life in Parowan. She graduated from Parowan High School and attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City and Branch Agricultural College (SUU) in Cedar City. As a young woman she worked at Bradshaw Auto in Cedar City.
In early 1941 she met Lyle Orton Halterman, a Parowan boy some five years her senior, when she asked for a ride home to Parowan one afternoon. Lyle thought then that she was someone with whom he would like to get better acquainted. They dated, and on December 10, 1941, three days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, they were married in the St. George LDS Temple. Theirs was a loving and wonderful marriage of nearly 65 years.
Connie spent her life in service to her family, her church, and her community. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and always tried to live up to that heritage. She was a woman of refinement and grace who was always hospitable and kind to those around her. She was known for her homemade bread and soup and for her freely and generously sharing with anyone in need. She served in many church capacities throughout her life, including an 12 month mission with her husband at the Los Angeles Temple Visitors Center.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle O. Halterman, and six children: Lyla Joy (George) Thomas, Hollywood, Fla.; Annette (David) Adams, Rexburg, Idaho; Mary Jayne (Mark) Dalley, Fruitland, Idaho; and Kristine (Jim) Robinson, Sam (Mary) Halterman, and Mark (Kellie) Halterman, all of Parowan. One sister Joy Orton Provo, Utah; and two brothers Jim Whitney of St. George, Utah; and Garth Whitney of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren of whom she was very proud. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy of faith and love; she will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parowan Third-Fourth Ward Chapel, 90 South Main. Burial will be in the Parowan City Cemetery.
