William Sylvester "Buck" Scott was born on 3 August 1860, in White County, Illinois to Meander and Harriett Tressie Douglass Scott. His paternal grandparents were Daniel and Rhoda Lanham Scott and his maternal grandparents were Henry and Mary Yates Douglass. William married Nanch Hannah McMahan (daughter of Reuben and America Ann McElvain McMahan) on 19 September 1879 in Lasater Precinct,Hamilton County, Illinois. There were four children born of their union.

The children were, Monroe Joshua "Roe" (Grace Ann Rumsey),
Esta Ann "Estie" (William Levingston, Alva J. Jones, Chester Frazier, and James Oliver Crowe), John Reuben "Rube" (Sophia Esther Stevens and Lattie Austin), and Mary Elizabeth (Abraham Landers).

After the death of Nancy Hannah, William married his second wife, Mary(Margaret?)Evelyn Cozart Plunket (she could have been married to unknown Plunket).

William was visiting his daughter Mary Elizabeth and her husband Abraham Landers at the time of his death on 23 May 1939. He was buried near his wife, but their grave sites are unknown and their graves are unmarked. They are buried in the older part of the cemetery.
