Idaho State Journal, 01/23/05

MONTPELIER - Enid Rachael Anderson Nordgran, 83, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2005 from natural causes at the Bear Lake Memorial Nursing Facility in Montpelier, Idaho. She was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Cumberland, Lincoln County, Wyo. She was the fourth of eight children born to Edwin Hyrum and Emma Rachael Strand Anderson.

Her family moved to Lyman, Wyo. where she graduated from Lyman High in 1938. She married Gilbert Newby Nordgran on April 17, 1944, in San Francisco, Calif., and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1944.

Being a WWII bride, Enid helped with the "war effort" by working at the Remington Arms Artillery factory near Salt Lake City. After the war, they settled in Layton, Utah, to raise their family.

On June 17, 1960, Enid and Gilbert moved to Paris, Idaho, and into what she called, "the most perfect little pioneer home and in the most wonderful neighborhood in the world!" There she raised her family with joy until 1988 when failing health made it necessary for Enid and Gilbert to move to the Aspenwood Apartments in Montpelier.

After Gilbert's death in 1989, Enid remained for 12 more years until it was necessary to relocate to Bear Lake Memorial.

Enid was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently and faithfully in all that was asked of her. The highlight of her life came when she received a call to serve a Family History Mission at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City from 1991 to 1993 and later assisted in the name extraction program at the Family History Center in Montpelier, Idaho, for many years.

Enid and Gilbert were parents to four children. She is survived by her children, two sisters, Lillian Victoria Van Dyke and Betty Jean Rossiter. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who will miss her so very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Oliver Strand and Edwin Curtis Strand, three sisters, Emma Carolyn Elzinga, Mary Kathryn Lothrop and Lula Lee Holm and one grandchild, Wendy Michaelson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in the Paris, Idaho Stake Center where friends may visit with family that morning from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.

Burial will be in the Paris Cemetery, with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier, Idaho.
