Former local resident Ralph Newman Jr., 57, died of cancer Aug. 8, 2002, in Medford, Ore. He was born Sept. 22, 1944, in Yreka, Calif., and lived in Medford before moving to the local area 30 years ago. He lived in Longview and Kalama prior to returning to Medford 18 months ago. Mr. Newman worked as a machinist and maintenance supervisor for Reynolds Metals. He retired due to illness. He enjoyed traveling to exotic places, boating and fly fishing. Survivors include his mother, Rosezella Hall of Medford; a son, Scott Newman of Seattle; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Wika of Longview; two brothers, Rodney Newman of Central Point, Ore., and Claude Newman of Medford; three sisters, Maxine Adams, Carolyn Hammer and Dorothy Nienow, all of Medford; and two grandchildren. His father preceded him in death. A private family service has been held. Inurement will take place at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
