Pearl Lena Gransbury, 80, died Feb. 15, 1996, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A service was held at Kehl's Forest Lawn Chapel with a visitation. Rick Lyons, principal of Peters Creek Christian School, officiated. Burial was at Anchorage Memorial Park. A gathering followed at the home of David and Jeanne Gransbury.

Mrs. Gransbury was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Eastland, Texas, and moved to Alaska in 1957. She was creative in music, art, poetry, crocheting, singing and writing. At various times she was a schoolteacher, bookkeeper, handwriting analyst and homemaker. Her family said: ''She never forgot a birthday or wedding anniversary and was prolific at writing poems of some length for special occasions.'' She was preoccupied with church, family and work, but made time for making artificial flowers, especially for corsages. Her grandchildren were equipped with hand-crocheted outfits. She made much of her own clothing and her ever-present hats. When Anchorage Community College's main campus was at West High School, she taught a course in handwriting analysis and did work for banks and the court in her favorite avocation. Her family also said: ''We were always tempted to type letters to mom because she was a master graphologist and we were afraid she would commit analysis on us. At almost 70, she bowled a 500 series and was active in league bowling until the last few years. She was a natural when it came to music. Not only would she write the lyrics, she would score, sing and play the many songs she composed. Besides the piano, accordion and violin, she loved to play the harmonica, especially for her children. Her favorite number, 'Get On Board Little Children,' was embellished with all the train sounds, bells and whistles.'' Mrs. Gransbury married two days after high school graduation. Her first son died as an infant.

She is survived by her sons, Gaylen, David and Robert Gransbury; daughters, Julie Karisen, Corinna McGee and Janice Gransbury, all of Anchorage; sisters, Cora Brown of California and Opal Bangle of Oregon; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She will be buried alongside her husband of 60 years, Ernie. Memorials may be sent to Peters Creek Christian School, 10640 Chapel Drive, Chugiak 99567.
