Dick Lee was the second child of Charles Lee and Josephina Owens. He married Sarah Reece on March 26, 1911. Obit furnished by Sandra Ernst. "Richard Aaron Lee, son of Charles A. and Josie Owens Lee was born October 12, 1888, near Merwin. Missouri. His mother died when he was three days old and his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Shrake, who lived near New Lancaster, took him into their home and raised him as their son. His entire life was spent in Kansas, with the exception of the year 1901, when he lived in Oklahoma, the family making the trip in a covered wagon. Mr. Lee went by the name of Dick Shrake until his marriage to Sarah Reece, March 26, 1911. They made their home in or near La Cygne, Kansas. To them were born three daughters and one son who survive. Mr. Lee had been in failing health for several years and in July 1954, he was taken to the Moraine Nursing Home in Paola, where he remained until his death September 19, 1955, at the age of 66 years, 11 Months, and 7 days. The surviving children are Hazel, wife of Victor Wilgus of Richland, Washington; Helen wife of Roman Castro of Osawatomie, Kansas; Hester, wife of Harold Kirby, Spokane, Washington; and Richard Lee of DeSoto, Kansas. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, one foster brother, Roy Shrake of Los Angeles and four foster sisters - Cora Halbert, Hermosa Beach, California, Grace Grimsley, Wichita, Kansas; Bessie Cox and Ethel Lindsey of La Cygne.
