Services will be held at Leaksville United Methodist Church in Eden, N.C. on March 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. and also at Westminister Canterbury Richmond in Richmond, Va. on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 2 p.m. The family will greet friends after each service. Interment will be private in Overlook Cemetery , Eden.
She was born in Scott County, Va. on April 20, 1907 to the late Henderson Hamilton Reynolds and Ella Semones Reynolds. After graduation from Shoemaker High School, Gate City, Va., she attended Harrisonburg Sate Teachers College (now James Madison University) where she earned a teacher's certification. She then was employed as a teacher by the Henry County, Va. School System in Fieldale and Axton.
In 1930, she married John Hollis Ripple, superintendent (later manager) of the Marshall Field & Co. Towel Mill at Fieldale, where they lived until 1949, when he was transferred to Draper (now Eden) as manager of the Blanket and Sheeting Mills (later know as Fieldcrest Mills).
At both locations, Mrs. Ripple was active in church, civic and social activities. She was a long time Sunday school teacher, an excellent cook and hostess, and an avid bridge player. She moved to Westminister Canterbury Richmond in 1989.
She is survived by her only child Joan Ripple Clark and son-in-law Edwin Ayers Clark of Galloway Ridge at Fearington, Pittsboro, N.C. (formerly of Danville, Va.); grandsons John Edwin Clark and wife Wanda of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Steven Thomas Clark and wife Julie of Salem, Va.; great-grandchildren, Jeremy S. Jones and Ashley L. Clark of Chattanooga; brother Charles H. Reynolds and wife Rose of Hilton Head, S.C.; one nephew; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Fred J. Reynolds, Roanoke, Va., Thomas E. Reynolds, San Francisco, Calif., and sister Suella R. Robinson of Westminister Canterbury Richmond.
