SMITHVILLE Eddie C. Cheney, 64, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the North Mississippi Medical Center as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident on March 8. He was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Pontotoc County to John and Bernice Williams Cheney. He had lived in the Smithville area for more than 20 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Nondenominational Church. He was a draftsman with Weyerhaeuser, retiring in 1999 from the Columbus complex. He married Ann Reifers on June 12, 1976.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with the Rev. Wayne Vines officiating. Burial will be in East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Okolona.

Survivors include his wife, Ann R. Cheney of Smithville; three sons, Johnny Earl Cheney and his wife, Anita, of Becker, Randy Cheney of Smithville and Vince Cheney of Columbus; one daughter, Barbara Cheney of Columbus; four brothers, Herman Cheney of Thaxton, Howard Cheney of Water Valley, Turner Cheney of Milwaukee, Wis., and Bobby Cheney of Oxford; two sisters, Peggy Cheney of Houlka and Crina Lou Greene of Sheridan, Ark.; four grandchildren, Molly Cheney, Jonathan Cheney, Tina Sumrall and Heaven Cheney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Johnny Cheney, J.C. Cheney, Jimmy Cheney and Mack Cheney; and a sister, Sue Hurley.

Pallbearers will be Jim Thompson, Steven Towery, David Box, Mark Cheney, Eric Jensen, Kipper Jensen and Mike Acker.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Weyerhaeuser in Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Scott Wiygul, Amory MS 38821-0299.
