Daughter of James Cooper Mathers and Modes Hunter Mathers, and grandaughter of Augustus Mathers & Mary Ann Cooper Mathers and James A Cooper & Elizabeth White Cooper; her parents and 3 of her grandparents; as well as her sister Estill Mathers Summers are buried in Micanopy Historic Cemetery in Alachua County.

"Katie" saved letters that her grandfather, Augustus Mathers, wrote in 1861-62 to his wife during his service in the Civil War. She donated these letters to Professor Doty at the U of FL for research. Prof. Doty annotated these letters and published them in the Oct 1959 issue of the Florida Historical Society Quarterly. In these letters that Dr. Mathers wrote he described his experiences as an assistant surgeon in the CSA while serving near Fernandina, FL. There were numerous references of his son, James Cooper Mathers "Coop", who was Katie's father. Due to her generousity & foresight we have a small glimse of history and these letters certainly help "put flesh on the bones" of these Florida pioneers!

Katie was the wife of Henry Horton Simpson, who is also buried in High Springs Cemetery.

She was the mother of:
Henry Horton Simpson, Jr (1907-1966)
James Clarence Simpson (1910-1952)
Dorothy Catherine Simpson Baer (1913-1995)
