Co. E 3rd Tenn. Inf. U.S.A. William Yarnell was born in the Ball Camp area of Knox County, Tennessee in September 1834. At the time the Civil War broke out in April, 1861, he was not married, but had four brothers. Wiliam joined Company E of the 3rd Regiment East Tennessee Infantry, Union, with two brothers, Joseph and William, on February 12, 1862 at Flat Lick, Kentucky. Corporal John Greyson Yarnell and Private Joseph Yarnell were captured on January 1864 at Love's Creek in East Knox County, Tennessee and taken to Andersonville Prison, Sumter County, Georgia where they both died. William continued the war under William Tescumseh Sherman into Georgia. William survived the war, married Harriet Graves and had four children. William died in 1914 at the age of 70.
