Ken Purdy, 63, Linn County Civil Defense director, died Friday night. He was addressing the Lebanon Masons when he suffered an apparent heart attack and was dead on arrival at Lebanon Community Hospital.
Purdy, of Scio, was a former Scio mayor and was serving as a director on the Linn Benton Community College Board at the time of his death. He had been the Civil Defense Director here less than a year.
Born in Newberg, he moved to Linn County when he was 19. Purdy is survived by a wife and three children.
