F. P. Devaney, pioneer of Linn County, who died Monday night, January 26, was said to be the oldest Elk [member] in Oregon. He had been a member of the Oddfellows' Lodge at Jefferson for 52 years, also.

Mr. Devaney was born October 30, 1828 in North Carolina. He served three years in the Civil War under General Price.

He is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. M. V. Bilyeu, Albany; Mrs. S. M. Hansard, Lebanon; Frank Devaney, Thomas A. J. Devaney, Jefferson; R. L. Devaney, Roseburg; G. M. Devaney, North Bend; Mrs. S. P. Hansard, Great Falls, Montana. Thirty-two grandchildren survive, including Thomas Bilyeu and Dr. U. R. Bilyeu of this city.
