Scio Pioneers Buried Mid Childhood Scenes
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Daley, 86, who had lived in Scio nearly three-quarters of a century, died at her home in this city Wednesday night, August 22, 1934, following an illness of 11 days. Mrs. Daley was born near Quincy, Illinois, June 18, 1848 and came to this section of Oregon when she was about five years of age, spending the remainder of her life here.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church, having embraced the faith early in life. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in this city, beginning at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Elder E. L. Lackey of Portland officiating. Special vocal numbers were given by Miss Anna Pierce and Stanley Walker. The pulpit was banked with flowers during the services, which were largely attended. Pallbearers were Delmar, Bennie and Eddie LaBounty of Aberdeen, Wash., and William Rosky and Omar and Allie Wheeler of Portland. The first four named are grandsons and the other two are nephews of the deceased. The singers and pallbearers were selected in accordance with the wish of Mrs. Daley.
Four sons and three daughters survive Mrs. Daley; Alfred W. and Edwin L Daley, , Scio; Norman Daley, Portland; Mrs. Jessie LaBounty, Aberdeen, Wash.; Miss Mary L. Daley, Milwaukie, Oregon. A half-sister Mrs. Hattie Dodd, lives near Boise, Idaho. Five grandchildren survive. All of the sons and daughters and members of their families were present at the rites of the aged pioneer. Burial was in Franklin Butte cemetery beside the grave of the husband of the deceased, who died in Scio in March 1917.
