Henry Carl Avers was born May 31, 1849 to Henry and Hannah Schrier Avers in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Henry and Christina Frieda Bünning immigrated to the United States and married in 1874. The bore ten children; seven sons and three daughters.

Surviving are his wife: Christina, sons: August, Seaford, Edward and Louie, all of Davenport, Emiel of Edgar, Willie of Shickley and Art of Lincoln, Illinois; one daughter, Augusta Jagels of Davenport; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Henry came to Nebraska in September 1883 and had lived here every since. When Christ's Evanglical Lutheran Church was organized in Davenport 50 years ago Henry, along with his wife, became charter members and had maintained their membership in good standing.

Two daughters, Emilea, age 17 years, and Edna, age 4 months preceded him in death.
