(From daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Townsend Eaglesfield's obituary:
"Margaret was the daughter of James and Catherine Davis Townsend, well known names in the political and religious life of Western Kentucky and Central Indiana. In 1830 Mr. Townsend, with his family, removed into the interior of Indiana and laid out the town of Putnamville upon the great throroughfare of that decade, the National Road. Through his influence in the same year a Presbyterian church was organized by Rev Isaac Reed, of which Margaret became a member. "
