Denver - Stewart Cosgriff, a former Salt Lake City banker and civic leader, died Thursday. He was 78. Mr. Cosgriff started his banking career with Continental Bank & Trust, Salt Lake City, in 1924 after being graduated from the University of Colorado. In 1929, he became an assistant vice president of the National Copper Bank, and later a vice president of the First Security Bank of Utah. In 1935, he was the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce treasurer and chairman of the commerce's Wasatch Outdoor Recreation Association. Also in 1935, he was the president of the Salt Lake City Community Chest. He became the vice president of First National Bank in 1936 and director of the Salt Lake City Senior Chamber of Commerce Winter Sports Committee. In 1948, he moved to Denver as vice president of the Denver National Bank. He was born June 30, 1903, Salt Lake City to John B. and Bess Stewart Cosgriff. He married Katharine Dawson in 1927 in Denver. Survivors include his wife; son, Peter, Leadville, Colo.; daughters, Mrs. James B. Kurtz (Katharine "Tinka"), Denver; Mrs. Burt Beck (Bridgette) Fisher, Mrs. Anton (Susan) Mueller; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
