WEST, Josie Barrett, 87, of Richmond, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008. She was born October 21, 1920 in Sedley, Virginia to Lillie Rollings Barrett and Philip H. Barrett. Josie was a member of River Road Church, Baptist. She was also a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Jamestowne Society and the Commonwealth Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her survivors include her husband of 67 years, J. Kempter West; two daughters, Elizabeth "Bette" Barrett West Shiflett and her husband, Pendleton M. Shiflett III, and Mary-Elliott West Wheeler and her husband, Richard T. Wheeler Jr.; three grandchildren, Richard T. Wheeler III and his wife, Marissa Dobbs Wheeler, Philip Barrett Wheeler and Elizabeth Pendleton Shiflett; and a great-granddaughter, Julia Marie Wheeler. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in the chapel at River Road Church, Baptist. Interment will be private in the Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacon's Castle, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Road Church, Baptist.
