Ebenezer Newman was born June 7, 1756, probably in Bolton, Massachusetts, to Thomas Newman and Hannah (Locke) Newman.

He enlisted at Woburn, Massachusetts for service in the Revolutionary War on June 1, 1775, under Captain John Wood, Colonel Loammi Baldwin’s regiment and was swtationed for the siege of Boston. He re-enlisted into the same company and regiment for one year in January 1776 at Mystic, Massachusetts, where he appears to have remained until he marched to New York City. On retreat of the army after the evacuation of New York, he was wounded in the leg on September 15, 1776 and furloughed to a physician. At the expiration of his furlough he returned to his regiment, but his limb was so bad that he obtained another furlough about November 1, 1776. He returned home, which on account of his feebleness, he did not reach until February 1777. After his wound healed, he served another three months at Roxbury, Massachusetts.

He married Sarah Dows, May 15, 1782 in Billerica, Massachusetts, He and his wife Sarah had ten Children, eight girls and two boys. After their marriage Ebenezer and his family lived in Deering, New Hampshire, then later in Andover, Maine and finally in Weld, Maine. Ebenezer died September 29, 1839 in Weld, Maine and is buried in the Robertson Cemetery located in Franklin County, Maine. His grave marker though broken is still visible and is marked by a Revolutionary War Veteran bronze marker.
