Thomas Jefferson Malone died of cholera after only five days of service in the Civil War near Evening Shade Arkansas.

His children, Sara, John and James were split up and raised by separate family members. The brothers, later on in life were reunited and went in search of their Mother Elizabeth Huffman. They contacted neighbors who were tight lipped and gave no information.

Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth divorced upon the onset of the Civil War. Theory is that the boys probably believed there mother was killed by raiders during the war due to the marriage of confederate union civilians.

Elizabeth Huffman was found living with relatives and then committed to an asylum in Fulton Missouri in 1880 where she is believed to have died. All records of burials at the Asylum were destroyed in a fire in the 1950's.
