Dr. Karl John Hawkins Jr. 1926 ~ 2006 Karl John Hawkins, Jr. passed away October 27, 2006. It took a heart attack to get Dad to take a day off. There are many, many people who will miss him and his gift of healing. Karl was born to Josephine Johnson and Karl John Hawkins on August 16, 1926 in Ogden, Utah. As the third of nine children, and born of goodly parents, he was an obedient son who made decisions based on what he knew was right. He served his country in the Navy during World War II (Okinawa) and then served an honorable LDS mission in California. He married Miriam Van Wagenen in 1951; they reared six children and were later divorced. Karl and Lyle Hand Jacob were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1981 and were blessed with one son. He was a wonderful step-father to Lyle's daughters, Tyffanee and Kelly. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled many positions. At the time of his death, he was serving in the High Council. Karl had many health challenges in his young life, which resulted in his choice to follow in the footsteps of his father to become a chiropractor. He was a pioneer in the field of Applied Kinesiology, loved his work and was fortunate to serve his patients up to the end. He was proud of his 53 years in the field that he loved. Although his health and age slowed him down in his later years, he was a force to be reckoned with on the handball court. Many a young man met their match for years before Karl decided to give up the crown. He is survived by his wife, Lyle; and his children, Cosette Snarr (Gordon), Yvonne Bent (Frank), Francine Oliveira (Antonio), Sherri Floyd (David), Dwight Carl Hawkins, Karl John Hawkins, III, Tyffanee Fugate (Harry), Kelly Bollow (Eric); his two brothers and five sisters. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy; and his son, Van Johnson Hawkins. We will all miss him in our lives. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 2 at 11 a.m. at the Sandy 13th Ward at 586 East 8400 South Sandy, Utah. Friends may call Wednesday, November 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary located at 3401 South Highland Drive and from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Thursday prior to services.
