"Helen Van Dorn Shelby, 88, of Covington died at 8:06 pm Monday in Community Hospital at Williamsport, where she had been a patient for two days.

A life resident of Covington, she was a 1921 graduate of Covington High School and attended MacMurray College at Jacksonville, Ill. A 70-year member of Troy Chapter Order of Eastern Star 145 and a 60-year member of Richard Henry Lee Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, she was a former member of Covington Woman's Club. She also was a member of Alpha Gamma Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa.

She was born Jan. 30, 1903, in Troy Township of Fountain County to Samuel and Lucinda Everly Van Dorn. On Aug. 3, 1924, she married Frank Y. Shelby. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Richard V. of Sebastian, Fla., Robert of Covington and Dr. Ronald R. of San Angelo, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Virginia) Bennett of Rt. 4, Veedersburg, Mrs. Richard (Emma Lou) Davis of Rt. 1, Covington, and Mary Elizabeth Hoagland of Lafayette; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 2:30 pm Friday in Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Bend Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 pm Thursday and 10 am to noon Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Covington Community Foundation or First United Methodist Church of Covington."
