Arriving in Vietnam for duty, PFC Dorner was assigned to the Supply Company of the 3d Service Battalion, FLSG Alpha, Force Logistical CMD, III MAF in DaNang.
On March 24, 1966 while on a resupply trip to the defensive perimeter the Marines were hit with a volley of enemy sniper fire. PFC Dorner was hit and killed as a resuklt of a hostle gunshot wound to his chest.
