Harry J. Merrill, 28 of 42 Storer Street, Saco, died at a local hospital as a result of an accidental shooting while target practicing with Raymond Scammon at the Scamon farm on Louden Road. It was determined that a defective rifle caused the fatality. Mr. Merrill had been a resident of Saco for the past 6 years and was employed as a gear cutter at the Saco-Lowell Shops.
He was born at Campton, New Hampshire, the son of Frank and Gertrude (Little) Merrill.
He was predeceased by a daughter Charlene Merrill. He is survived by his widow Hazel Mae Record of Saco; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank E. Merrill of Camp Ellis; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Seavey and Mrs. and Mrs. Frank McLeod, both of Roxbury, MA; and four brothers, Everett F. of Worcester, MA, Francis E. of Claremont, NH, Leslie B. of Worcester, MA, and Richard of Ashland, NH.
He was a member of the Baptist Church of Campton, NH.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Shumway Funeral Hone, 35 Spring Street, Saco, ME.
