Nora grew up in eastern Nebraska. She came to San Diego County and graduated from Sweetwater High School and San Diego State Teachers College. She returned to western Nebraska to teach. In 1928 she married Joe Lester, foreman of a large horse ranch in western Nebraska. They returned to eastern Nebraska to their own farm. In 1934 they came to National City. Nora was active in the Methodist Church.
