Wesley Swiney was married first to Tennessee "Tennie" Lawson, with whom he raised a large family of children. She died in or shortly after the year 1893; afterwards he remarried to Becky Sheets, who was his wife unto old age.
A native of Hancock County, one H. B. Garland, once wrote of Old Wesley:
"I suppose the older inhabitants away knew Wesley Swinney. He was one of the first men known to this writer in his infancy. A harder working man I never knew. He and family lived opposite, across the river from me." (The Hancock County News, Friday, February 15, 1946)
There appears to be no death certificate on file for him in the State of Tennessee. A brief notice of his passing was found in the "Out-of-Town Deaths" column of the Friday, June 12, 1942, issue of The Knoxville News-Sentinel. Unfortunately the Sneedville paper is lost for that year, and no local obituary or other record of his death has been found.
