Anthony Allen (Tony) Neps, age 52, son of Jim and Dee Neps, died on Friday, December 16th after more than a year-long battle with cancer. Graduate of Maroa-Forsyth High School (class of '88) where he played football and a life-long resident of Macon County, Tony appreciated the comradery of this community. Whether attending Friday night games or coaching youth football, he involved himself in his hometown. A long-time employee of Norfolk-Southern Railroad, avid fisherman, and black belt in taekwondo, Tony connected with a great number of people. Never hurried, Tony enjoyed being active and doing things at his own pace. He relished spending time with his family and taking his son to local area fishing spots where they would try their luck catching bass, bluegill, crappie, or whatever was biting. Often carrying his grandfather's tackle box, Tony continued fishing with his family until he entered hospice care in October. In his final months, Tony has been surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones from across the country who were able to share in his gift of storytelling. He was a devoted and loving father of Aiden (16) and caring husband of Carrie for 16 years. He is survived by his wife and son, parents Jim and Linda Neps, stepfather Terry Fry, his brother Greg Neps, and siblings Jessica Hawke, Jason Hawke, Suzy Dees, and Howard Fry and stepchildren Austin, Alicia, and Garrett. There will not be a formal service at this time, but a celebration of Tony's life will be scheduled to be held at a later date.
