SODA SPRINGS — Alvin "Al" Richard Parker, 74, passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1926, at Lanark, Bear Lake, Idaho, the son of Joseph Watkins and Susie Fontello Orr Parker. He married Winnetta Peterson October 27, 1952, in the Logan LDS Temple. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Al had worked for Garrett Freightlines, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Third Ward and had held many positions both in the ward and stake. He had been a home teacher for many years. His hobbies included his family, gardening, hunting and fishing.

Al is survived by his wife Winnetta of Soda Springs; four sons and one daughter and their spouses, Lynn M. Parker, Fresno, Calif.; Blake A. and Connie Parker; Ronald J. and Nicky Parker, all of Soda Springs; Roger C. and Roxie Parker, Lewiston; Raelene and Kirk Young, also of Soda Springs; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters, Derell Parker, Logan, Utah; Gordon and Jean Parker, Millville, Utah; Lona Covert, Millville, Utah; Glenna and Dave Boehme, Logan, Utah; Opal and Glen Nelson, Mantau, Utah; Loye and Neil Christensen, Georgetown, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, LaVell Parker; a sister, Zola Christensen; two brothers-in-law, Glen Christensen and Freeman Covert; and a daughter-in-law, Dotty Parker.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 12, at 12 noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center with Bishop Ron Myers officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the Stake Center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs with military graveside services by the VFW. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home of Soda Springs, Idaho.
