Mr. Jessie L. Lockhart, 68, of 228 Highway 165, Phenix City, AL. died April 27, 2008 at the Medical Center Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL. with the Rev. Samuel Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Stephens Cemetery in Phenix City, AL. Visitation will be Friday, May 2, 2008 from 12 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, according to Taylor Funeral Home. Mr. Lockhart was born May 30, 1939 in Cottonton, AL., son of the late Artie Lockhart and Jerome Lockhart. He was a retired teacher with the Russell County School System and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Phenix City. Mr. Lockhart was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Olive High School. He furthered his education at Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, AL. where he earned a Bachelor Degree. He was a devoted educator, spending many years educating the boys and girls in Georgia and Alabama. He is a member of the Alabama Retired Teacher's Association, NEA, Lambda Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Chairman of the Omega Scholarship Committee, and the Omega Choral. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Louise Williams Lockhart; a son, Rodney (Sherlene) Lockhart; a grandson, Darius Lockhart, all of Phenix City, AL.; brothers, Parrish and Porter Lockhart, Seale, AL., Oscar Thompson, Ft. Mitchell, AL.; sisters, Annie P. Parrish, Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Mary (Al) White, Chicago, IL.; a sister in law, Clarice Lockhart, Seale, AL.; three brothers in law, Doffy (Marie) Williams, Detroit, MI., Olin (Liz) Morris, Columbus, GA.; Joseph (Jerri) Williams, Phenix City, AL. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, acquaintances and colleagues.
