Floyd was born in Lockwood to B. F. and Viola (Sayler) Patterson. He attended school in the Lockwood area. He graduated from Cal Poly in 1909. He Served in WW1 in France and Germany. Floyd returned home to the family ranch in Lockwood and farmed with his brother Charles. He married Barbara Wilkinsen. They had 3 children, Leslie, Lester and Jewel. Floyd and Barbara farmed the ranch as Charles moved to Santa Cruz. Floyd lived on the ranch and work with his son and grand children until he died in 1967.
