J. W. went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born March 3, 1924 in Wilson to John Wame and Nola (West) Holland. On September 18, 1946 he married Mary Louise Latta in Plainview.
J. W. graduated from Levelland High School in 1942. He then joined the Army Air Force and served from May 28, 1942 to Sept. 23, 1945 receiving several decorations including a purple heart and four bronze stars. He graduated from Texas Tech college in 1952 with a degree in agriculture. He moved his family of five to Arizona in 1967 where he was engaged in farming for the next 11 years. In 1978 he moved back to Lubbock. Mr. Holland was a member of the Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock and was a 32nd degree mason.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Travis Holland and a son James W. Holland.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of Lubbock, a son, Mark of Lubbock, a daughter and her husband, Lu Ann and Philip Williams of Tucson, AZ, a grandson and his wife, Christopher and Kelly Holland of Quincy, CA, granddaughters, Elisa Ann Oglesby and her husband Chris of Lubbock, Tennille Williams of Phoenix, AZ and Jamie Holland of Omaha, TX, great grandchildren, Gabriel, Ella and Laura Oglesby along with extended family, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family suggests memorials to My Fathers House 1510 S. Loop 289 Lubbock, Texas 79412 or McAdoo Cemetery Rt. 1 Box 127 McAdoo, Texas 79243.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clifton Turner, Ricky Pace, Bret Paxton, Christopher Holland, Christopher Oglesby and Ken Hayman.
The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 AM til service time at the church.
