Louis was a son of William James 'John' Burling (1842-1909) born Wairarapa & his 2nd wife, Alice Maude Burns (1863-1931) born England, who married in NZ in 1906.
* His mother had first married William James Aubrey McKellow (1861-1904) who died in Melbourne in 1904
* His father had first married Mary Ann Clark (1849-1921) in 1868. Mary next married Edward Winteringham in 1906

Louis married Hannah Silvester Mills in 1934
He had been living in Levin at the Te Whanau Rest Home
He is buried with wife Hannah and with Lucy Harriett Mills
