May 11, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO, In the Midst of Life, We are in Death: So chronicled and very true, illustrating every day life. In the midst of life and death we are called upon to announce the death of Rev. Jas. A. Swiger, a well known Missionary Baptist minister, at his home in Purdy, Thursday, May 9, 1907, of heart failure and paralysis, age about 51 years. He was a son of of the late Peter Swiger, and was raised in the county, where he was well and favorably known. He married Miss Penn. Haddock, a sister of Boon Haddock of near Eagle Rock, and Lon Haddock of near Monett, who survive him. Funeral services were held yesterday at the Purdy Baptist Church by Rev. Jas. T. Brattin, after which the remains were conveyed to the New Site Cemetery and there laid to rest. A gallant solider of the cross has fallen, a loving husband has gone, a splendid citizen has gone the route traveled by so many. Peace to his memory.
