Son of Henry F. "Hy" Schlotfeldt and Margaret Kroeger Schlotfeldt, both born in Germany. "Ted" was a farmer on the land at Gambril, Scott County, Iowa, but was best known as an accomplished carpenter and builder of barns and homes. He occasionally worked with his cousins who were descendants of Hy's brother, Detlef Hans, in DeWitt, Iowa.

Family stories were that all the kids loved to visit Ted because he owned a Parrot named Polly, who apparently could talk well and entertained them all.

Unfortunately, Ted died in the huge influenza epidemic of 1918 and 1919. Son, Adolph, served in the Army in WWI and after return from France, lived at the family farm home and continued in the carpentry, building business.

Grandson, Fay Ernest, regrets never having known him. Ted died when Fay's father, Ernie, was only 13, and 12 years before Fay was born. All the stories about Ted were that he had a great good humor and was very skilled at what he did.
