CLARA CRIM GOLTRY
Mrs. Clara Crim Goltry was born at Sellersburg, Ind., September 10, 1866, from whence she moved with her parents to Chariton, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. She received her education in the public schools here and at Drake University in Des Moines. She taught her first school at the age of sixteen and thereafter was employed as teacher in the graded schools and academy of this city. She was principal of the Hedrick schools of Ottumwa and also superintendent of the Humeston schools. She served two terms as superintendent of public schools of Lucas county. She taught in the North Missouri Normal school at Kirksville, and while serving her friends and neighborbors as a teacher in the public schools of Westboro, Mo., the collapse came which, a few months later, culminated in her death on her forty-third birthday, September 10, 1909.
She was married to Dr. Goltry December 28, 1892. There were two children born to this union, Harriet and Charles, who are with us today and enlist our sincerest sympathy.
Mrs. Goltry became a member of the Church of Christ when she was quite young and lived an exemplary Christian life. She was always engaged in doing what she could, gaurding every act by the Infinite, expressed in the terms of love, friendship and truth. She was a most valued member of Chapter N.P.E.O. society, which pays loving tribute to her memory.
In closing this brief sketch, we will use the words of a friend who knew her best. "I have known Clara since she was a little girl and I have always known her to be true to everything that was right. She lived and breathed the atmosphere of Jesus' words: Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." Mrs. Goltry was the last one of a family of eight to depart this life.
Dr. John Wesley of St. Joseph, Mo., officiated at the funeral service, assisted by the pastor of the Christian church, Rev. C. E. Wells, and interment took place in Chariton cemetery.
