Mr. Turnbull was a carpenter for Florence Construction Co. in Topeka for several years. He served in the Army from 1964 to 1966.
He was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Topeka, the son of Ronald Edward and Ellen McGinley Turnbull. He was reared in the Maple Hill area and graduated from Maple High School in 1963. He moved to Overbrook in 1969. Mr. Turnbull was a member of the Anderson-Raible Post No. 239 of the American Legion in Overbrook.
He was married to Joan Anderson on May 30, 1967. They were divorced. Survivors include a daughter, Renee Ramirez, Topeka; two sons, Gail Houghtaling, Wilsey, and Gary LaMastres, Ottawa; his mother, Ellen Turnbull, Alma; a brother, Dan Turnbull, Alma; a sister, Dinah Turnbull, Alma; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mr. Turnbull was preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Turnbull.
Graveside services were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Overbrook Cemetery in Overbrook. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Post No. 239 of the American Legion. Mr. Turnbull laid in state from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Greenwood-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Overbrook where relatives and friends will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions were made to the Anderson-Raible Post No. 239 of the American Legion in Overbrook and sent in care of the funeral home.
