US Congressman. He was raised and educated in Madisonville, Kentucky, and then settled in Sheldon, Illinois. Snow taught school in Sheldon and Chicago while studying law, attained admission to the bar, and then began a practice in Sheldon. He enlisted in the Army for the Civil War as a Private in the 139th Illinois Infantry. Snow received a commission and by the end of the war had been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel as Provost Marshal of Georgia on the staff of General James B. Steedman. After the war Snow lived in Chicago, where he worked as a high school teacher. He then returned to Sheldon, where he became a banker and served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1872 to 1874. In 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat and served one term, 1891 to 1893. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1892, but was appointed the House Sergeant at Arms, an office in which he served until 1895. Snow then moved to Kankakee, where he resumed his banking career.
