Pfc. Adam L. Marion, 26, of Mount Airy, N.C.; was assigned to the 171st Engineer Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Saint Pauls, N.C.; died April 28 in Baghdad of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his forward operating base with indirect fire. Also killed were Sgt. Marcus C. Mathes and Sgt. Mark A. Stone. Adam was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gratsie Marion and Bobby McCormick. Surviving are his parents, Pam McCormick Marion and Donnie Lee Marion of Mount Airy; sister and brother-in-law Adrian and Terry McCann of Mount Airy; nephew and niece Connor McCann and Marissa McCann; his grandmothers, Stella Marion of Mount Airy and Annie Lou McCormick of Dobson; his aunts and uncles, Jimmie and Kay Shores of Haddock, Ga.; Monroe and Louise Bowman of Mount Airy; J.C. and Diane Davis of East Bend; and Arturo and Maria Hernandez of Yadkinville; and a very special friend, Whitney Wood of Thurmond.
