Kay Martinsen, 50, Kenmare, ND, passed away Friday, April 25, 2008, in the Kenmare Community Hospital after fighting cancer courageously for eight years.
Kay Lynne Martinsen was born January 24, 1958, the daughter of Magnus E. and Marjorie E. (Hansen) Martinsen in Fargo, ND. She was raised and educated in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1976. After attending college for a few years, she returned to Kenmare.
Kay was employed by the Baptist Home of Kenmare as the activities director. Kay loved the residents of the home and her work there.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare, where she enjoyed sharing her musical ability of playing and singing for the three united in one churches as well as at the Baptist Home of Kenmare. Kay had a strong faith in God, which helped her as she fought her courageous battle with cancer.
Kay had a wonderful sense of humor that helped her get through the roughest days. This helped to keep her spirits up as well as those of her caregivers. Her friends at CancerCare became very dear to her. She often said that if she had to have cancer, then this was the best place to receive treatment. It was just like coming home where they all could share their love, laughter, and tears. A special thank you to all at CancerCare.
Her loving family includes: mother, Marjorie Martinsen, Kenmare; brother, Ron Martinsen, Kenmare; aunt, Pearl Nelson, Kenmare; and cousins, DeAnn Lyons, Springfield, OH, Larry (Carol) Nelson, Burlington, Pam (Warren) Duerre, Kenmare, Danny (Julie) Nelson, Spicer, MN, and many additional loving cousins.
Kay was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandparents, Hans and Christine Hansen; paternal grandparents, Marius and Bertha Martinsen; uncles and aunt, Leroy Nelson, and Lester and Doris Hansen; and cousins, Dennis Nelson and Gary Hansen.
