Edmund L. Gritton Sr., 94, of Danville, died at 12:05 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.

Edmund was born the son of Jewell and Flora Graham Gritton on Oct. 14, 1913. He graduated from Danville High School in 1934. He worked for Johnson Oil Co. operating a service station on Main Street. He later worked for Holmes Brothers for 36 years until retirement in September 1979.

Ed had an interest in steam locomotives, street cars and the history of Danville and Vermilion County. He also enjoyed woodworking, and talking to everyone about "The Good Ole Days." In his earlier years he loved operating short wave and C.B radios. Edmund was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed Danville High School baseball and Illini basketball.

He married Louella (Ross) Schonians. Although divorced, they have remained very close and she survives. Survivors also include one son, Edmund (Marsha) Gritton Jr., and two grandchildren, Greg and Gary Gritton, all of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Gritton; daughter, Wanda Miller; and one daughter-in-law, Nancy Gritton.
