CPL Robert Henry George Burrows, Sr., age 83, of the town of Meeme, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Robert was born March 31, 1925 in Chicago, son of the late Frank and Sophie Burrows.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII as a automatic rifleman in the Pacific Theatre where he was awarded the Purple Heart medal and the Good Conduct medal. Mr. Burrows was also awarded the following ribbons during his Marine Service career: the Navy Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Asiatic Pacific, the World War II Victory, and the Navy Occupation Service Ribbon.
On October 5, 1946, he married the former Helen Kuprewicz at St. Camillus Catholic Church.
Robert began his employment as a machinist in the Chicago area. He then moved to Pulaski where he was owner/operator of a farm for 16 years. Robert then moved to the town of Meeme and helped establish B&B Metals, where he retired as Vice President of the company.
Survivors include his wife Helen Burrows, town of Meeme: two sons and a daughter-in-law; Robert Burrows, Jr., Newton and Ronald & Ginna Burrows, Newton; grandchildren Eric Burrows, T.J. Burrows, Ronald Burrows Jr., Brian Burrows and Brenda (Wayne) Couillard; and five great grandchildren: Ronald S. Burrows, III, Ashley, Nichole, Wayne Jr., and Johnny Couillard.
Robert was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law Sally Burrows.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, town of Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley. Entombment will follow at the family mausoleum at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery Newton, where full Military Rites will be accorded.
