Ameal C. Hammond, 79, died September 9 at the Lawrence County Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Hammond was retired as a forester with the American legion, a Mason, and a member of the Jayess Lodge. He was a member of the Sauls Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services were held September 11 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Sauls Valley Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Douglas Lee conducted the services and music was provided by Sherrod Rayborn. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Thames Hammond, Monticello, two daughters, Jewan Kirkand, Monticello, and Mr. Peggy Harvey, Jayess, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were members of the MS Nation Guard.
