Broomfield Leander (B.L.) Ball and his wife Sallie Indiana Hayes Ball, were married in Giles County, Tenn., March 2., 1873. Their sons were John Hugh "Jehu" Ball, 1877-1933, Rufus Tolbert Ball, 1873-1952, Bascum Texas "Bass" Ball, 1878-1957, Thomas Larimore, 1886-1955, Claude Ball, 1884-1953, and Willie Mack Ball, 1889-1951. Their daughters were Cora Lee Ball Carvell, 1881-1956, Anna Rebecca Ball Green, 1892-1960, and Joseph Ethel Ball Binkley, 1895-1923. B.L. and Sallie are buried in the Shane Cemetery in Culleoka, Maury County, Tenn. Sallie was born in Granville County, N.C., and moved to Giles County, Tenn., as a small child. Sallie was the daughter of Stephen Hayes and Rebecca Puryear Hayes, both of Granville County, N.C. Stephen's father was Simeon Hayes and his mother was Mary Hester. Rebecca's father was Robert Harmon Puryear and her mother was Rebecca ?. Broomfield was born in Giles County, Tenn., and was the son of John D. Ball, a native of North Carolina, who was the son of John Ball, who brought his family to Giles County in the 1830s. Leander's mother, Rhoda Carpenter Ball, was the daughter of Hensley Carpenter and Rhoda Mayes Carpenter, both of Amherst County, Va., who came to Giles County, Tenn., before 1820. Rhoda Mayes' father was Robert Mayes (mother was Elizabeth ?). Hensley's father was Benjamin Carpenter (mother was Mary ?).
