Clinton Eye, Jun 13 1896 - Mrs. Frances E. Burch, wife of D. L. Burch, died at her home one mile south of Lewis Station Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m. She had suffered from tumorous cancers on her arm for two years, which home physicians and city specialists failed to cure and the utmost devotion on the part of the best of husbands, a devoted sisters and two sons were as naught to the fiat of the Omnipotent. No woman in the county was more universally loved. She was born in Madison county, Virginia, Feb. 15, 1832. Her father, Mark Finks, deceased, came to New Franklin, Mo. in 1836 and from there to Henry county in 1837, homesteading west of Calhoun. Messrs. Will, Jim, Fisher and Mit Finks are brothers of Mrs. Burch and the surviving sisters are Mrs. John Legg, Mrs. Dode Adamson and Miss Jennie Finks. Frances E. Finks was married to D. L. Burch Dec. 18, 1856 and in 1858 went to housekeeping at the present homestead. Two sons, Thornton and George, were born to them and are influential Christian men in their community, an honor to good parents. On Thursday of last week, Mrs. Burch first spoke to her family about her approaching death, although for the last few months her sufferings have been almost without endurance. She bore them patiently and let her thoughts dwell on others rather than on herself. She expressed herself ready to go and her only regret was in leaving her loved ones, especially her husband, to whom she felt the parting would be most severe. She bade farewell to her family, telling them to meet her in Heaven and to tell all her friends and neighbors, saying: "Oh, what a happy meeting that will be!" Burial at Calhoun.
