Heaven and her five siblings were taken into Child and Family Services'.
She was the youngest. Her father Lawrence Traverse said she was walking and talking.

"She was always happy, always smiling, a cheerful baby. She knew little words, like mom and dad."
- Lawrence Traverse

Heaven and her five siblings were placed with a foster family. On several occasions Heaven's father saw unexplained bruises on her while in the care of the foster family and he raised those concerns to the childwelfare authorities. Those concerns fell on deaf ears.

On January 12th, 2005 Heaven was rushed from her foster home to the hospital in Fisher Branch. She was then transferred to Winnipeg Childrens' Hospital and remained in a coma for 2days.

On January 14th, 2005 Heaven slipped away at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Winnipeg Childrens Hospital from a head injury days before she was suppose to be returned home to Fisher River. At the time of her death she was covered in bruises. Her foot, legs and chest were bruised. On th night of her funeral wake, they had to have a headband over her head because a bruise was coming out.

Her foster parents from Peguis First Nation, north of Winnipeg, were arrested and charged for her death.
